London
Son Heung-min has officially committed his future to Tottenham Hotspur by signing a contract extension with the North London club.
His previous deal was set to expire at the end of the current season, which had led to speculation about his future as several European and non-European clubs expressed interest in acquiring him.
Concerns grew as the Tottenham management seemed hesitant in negotiations. Son, however, was looking for a long-term commitment, rather than just a one-year extension option that his old contract provided.
Son originally signed his last contract in 2021. However, it appears that Tottenham is keen on retaining him, which led to the activation of a one-year extension clause as of Tuesday, January 7, 2025.
This means that Son will remain with Tottenham until 2026, marking a decade of his journey with the club. He made the move from Bayer Leverkusen to Tottenham back in 2016.
Throughout his time at Tottenham, Son has scored 169 goals and provided 90 assists in 431 appearances. He currently ranks fourth on the list of all-time top scorers for the club, yet he has yet to lift any major trophies, with his performance dipping this season as he has managed only seven goals and six assists so far.
Since the departure of Harry Kane in 2023, Son has taken on the role of team captain. He is determined to lead Tottenham to glory in the Carabao Cup, provided they can overcome Liverpool in the semifinals.
