Jakarta, IDN Times – On the early morning of Monday, January 21, 2025, a devastating fire broke out in the Gempol area of Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, destroying hundreds of homes. This tragic event has left 1,797 individuals without a place to live.
Afan Adriansyah, the Assistant for Development and Environmental Affairs at the DKI Jakarta Provincial Secretary, stated that the local government is engaging in discussions with the affected residents regarding their relocation to more suitable housing.
“We have proposed several relocation sites, but residents prefer options close to their original location. One possibility is the Wisma Atlet high-rise in Danau Sunter, which is currently undergoing renovations. If residents are interested and the renovations are completed, this could help address the housing crisis in Kemayoran,” Afan mentioned during a press briefing at City Hall on Wednesday, January 22, 2025.

In addition, Sigit Widjatmoko, Assistant for Government Affairs at the DKI Jakarta Provincial Secretary, noted that during fire incidents, the provincial government takes measures to ensure the safety and security of residents. For the fire in Kebon Kosong, Kemayoran, two evacuation centers have been set up for those affected.
“We are providing not only logistical support but also counseling and assistance for the displaced residents. Health posts are also available for the affected individuals,” Sigit explained.

For the survivors of the Kebon Kosong fire, the Ministry of Social Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia has taken charge of managing the affected residents.
“The landowners, specifically the management of the Kemayoran area under the Secretariat of State, are also taking steps to secure their assets,” he added.

3. A Total of 1,797 Individuals Displaced

The fire occurred on Jalan Kemayoran Gempol, RT 02 RW 04, in the Kebon Kosong area of Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, on January 21, 2025. As a result, 607 families, equating to 1,797 individuals, lost their homes and were forced to evacuate.
“Currently, the evacuees are sheltering at the Al-Hasanah Mosque and Baiturrahman Mosque,” said Muhammad Yohan, Head of the DKI Jakarta Disaster Data and Information Center.
Yohan reported that the fire started around 00:35 WIB and affected 11 RTs (from RT 01 to RT 11), involving 543 buildings.
The response included 34 fire trucks, teams from the BPBD, PMI, health services, transportation, Satpol PP, PLN, local police, military, as well as personnel from social services and Tagana.
