Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Megawati Hangestri Pertiwi made history in the Korean Volleyball League by scoring an impressive 44 points as the Red Sparks triumphed over IBK Altos in a thrilling match on Tuesday (January 14) at the Hwaseong Indoor Arena.
The Red Sparks secured a dramatic victory with a final score of 3-2 (25-21, 36-34, 23-25, 19-25, 15-12) against the home team, IBK Altos.
From the second set onward, IBK proved to be a formidable opponent for the Red Sparks, while the latter struggled to maintain their momentum, particularly during the third set where they let the match slip.
IBK managed to exploit gaps in the Red Sparks’ defense, particularly through Viktoriia Danchak, which allowed them to take control in the final two sets and push the match to a decisive fifth set.
Throughout the match, the Red Sparks struggled not only defensively but also faced issues capitalizing on their offensive opportunities, especially with Vanja Bukilic, whose attacks led to points for the opposition.
Fortunately for the Red Sparks, they regained their footing in the fifth set when Lee So Young’s spike went out, allowing them to clinch the match with a score of 15-12 (3-2).
Despite Bukilic’s lack of sharpness in this match, Megawati’s outstanding performance shone through. Known as Megatron, Megawati’s 44 points marked a personal best for her in a single game in the Korean Volleyball League.
This achievement surpassed her previous record of 34 points, set against Hyundai Hillstate in the first round.
In addition to Megawati’s groundbreaking accomplishment, the victory over IBK also marked a new milestone for the Red Sparks.
This win brought the Red Sparks to an impressive streak of 10 consecutive victories this season, a record they have never achieved since the team’s inception.
