Medan, CNN Indonesia —
Dinas Kesehatan Sumatera Utara (Sumut) has once again extended the non-natural disaster status for the Extraordinary Events (KLB) concerning malaria and dengue fever (DBD) in the South Nias District (Nisel), as cases of both diseases continue to spread within the community.
The head of the health department, Muhammad Faisal Hasrimy, stated that this extension of the KLB status is based on the decree (SK) from the Nisel Regent, numbered 100.3.3.2/1070/2024.
“Consequently, based on the decree, the KLB status extension will be in effect from December 29, 2024, to January 25, 2025,” Muhammad Faisal Hasrimy mentioned on Monday (January 6).
Faisal further explained that cases of malaria and DBD are still being recorded in the Hibala District. Health officials continue to monitor and manage cases in the area.
“The extension of the non-natural disaster KLB status in South Nias is due to the ongoing cases of malaria and DBD in the Hibala District. The numbers have been fluctuating,” he elaborated.
However, the instances of malaria and DBD that once surged in the Pulau Pulau Batu District and other regions have significantly decreased and are now rarely found.
“In other districts, instances of malaria and DBD are no longer present. If any cases do arise, they are few and have not escalated,” he concluded.
