Persib Bandung secured a narrow 1-0 victory against Borneo FC Samarinda in the 11th week of the Liga 1 2024/25 season. Although the win was by a slim margin, the three points were considered more than sufficient.
Playing at home in the Gelora Bandung Lautan Api Stadium (GBLA) on Friday (22/11/2024), Persib faced challenges in breaking through Borneo’s defense. Ciro Alves managed to score with a close-range shot from inside the penalty area during a corner kick in the 36th minute.
After that, Persib struggled to find a way to add a second goal. The score of 1-0 held until the final whistle, allowing Persib to claim all three points.
“This was an important match, and the victory is crucial. The good thing is that we came out on top. In the first half, they pressured us, and it was a bit tough to break free,” said Persib coach Bojan Hodak during the post-match press conference.
“We made too many mistakes in the first half. However, in the second half, everything improved, although we should have scored 2-3 more goals,” he added.
This win propelled Persib Bandung to the second position in the Liga 1 standings, accumulating 23 points. Meanwhile, Borneo FC dropped to third place with a total of 21 points.
Defender Kakang Rudianto expressed his gratitude for this positive outcome. He noted that the players fought hard to secure the three points against Borneo.
“I am thankful for tonight’s victory. I’m extremely happy and thrilled with my teammates at Persib. Our unity is strong, and the trust we have in each other helped us win,” Kakang shared.
“I acknowledge that Borneo is a formidable team, but we were more prepared. We were determined to win, especially since we were playing at home,” he concluded.
