London –
Chelsea is currently on a high as they prepare to face off against Tottenham Hotspur. Chelsea’s manager, Enzo Maresca, has dismissed claims that his team is the favorite in this encounter.
The Blues are quietly sitting in second place in the Premier League standings after 14 matches, amassing 28 points—seven points behind league leaders Liverpool and eight points clear of Tottenham, who are currently in 11th position.
In their last 13 league games, Chelsea has suffered only one defeat, securing eight victories in the process. Cole Palmer and his teammates have enjoyed a winning streak, having triumphed in their last three matches.
Given their current form, Chelsea is considered a strong contender as they challenge Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday (December 8, 2024). This is particularly true as Tottenham has struggled, managing just one win and suffering three defeats in their last six matches.
“First of all, we know the fans will come out in droves, that’s for sure. And secondly, we are not the favorites, not at all,” Maresca stated, as reported by Daily Mail.
“Both teams are competing in European competitions, just like us. However, just because we are sitting in second, that doesn’t make us the favorites.”
Nevertheless, Chelsea has good reason to be optimistic about leaving Tottenham’s home ground with a full three points. Historically, Chelsea has won three of their last five encounters against Spurs and has claimed victory in two out of their last three visits to the Tottenham venue across all domestic competitions. Their most recent visit to North London resulted in a commanding 4-1 win in November 2023.
