Ruben Amorim recently stated that winning any trophy at this moment will not resolve the ongoing issues facing Manchester United. The true remedy lies in regaining competitiveness and ultimately claiming the Premier League title in the future.
Having been in charge for a little over a month, Amorim has already missed his first opportunity for silverware this season after Manchester United was eliminated by Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals on Friday (20/12/2024) early morning WIB. The match in London concluded with a score of 4-3 in favor of the home team.
After falling behind 0-3, United mounted a comeback to bring the score to 2-3 with goals from Joshua Zirkzee and Diallo. However, an incredible Olympic goal from Son Heung-min put Spurs further ahead. Jonny Evans managed to narrow the gap during injury time in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to change the outcome.

Despite the defeat, Amorim expressed satisfaction with the performance of Amad Diallo and his teammates. He emphasized the importance of improving their play to consistently compete at the top level moving forward. Currently, United is struggling to meet that standard.
“We lost our focus at the beginning of the second half, which was tough. If you look at the match as a whole, we were the better team, but they were more clinical. We may have lost, but the effort from the players is what matters most to me,” Amorim said, as quoted by beIN Sports.
“We need to take some time to reflect on this game and tomorrow we will take away many positives from it.”
“We can’t think that winning a trophy will solve everything. There’s still a long way to go, and we are continually evolving. Our goal is to win the Premier League. How long it will take, I can’t say,” he asserted.
Following this match, Manchester United will host Bournemouth in the Premier League on Sunday (22/12) at 21:00 WIB, and then they will visit Wolverhampton Wanderers four days later.
