Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Kia America recently announced a significant recall affecting 80,255 units of the Niro model in the United States (US) as of Saturday, January 25. This recall encompasses the Niro variants, including Electric Vehicle (EV), Hybrid, and Plug-in Hybrid models.
According to a statement by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall is prompted by an issue with the airbags, which may deploy unexpectedly. This malfunction poses a potential risk of injury to drivers and passengers. Investigations by NHTSA revealed that the airbags are not deploying correctly due to damaged wiring.
Owners of affected models are urged to take their vehicles to authorized service centers for repairs, which will be performed at no cost to them.
The Niro model isn’t new for Kia; the South Korean automaker has transformed the conventional Niro into an electric and hybrid sport utility vehicle (SUV).
This isn’t the first time Kia has issued a recall. Recently, Kia India also announced a recall for the Carens model, produced between September 2022 and February 2023, affecting 30,297 units. This recall was related to a software update for the Kia Carens.
