Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Seventeen residents of Kampung Kebon Kalapa in Sukabumi Regency, West Java, were reported to have suffered from food poisoning after consuming mushrooms on Tuesday night (24/12). Among them, seven individuals required hospitalization.
“Out of the 17 residents from Limusnunggal Village, Bantargadung District, seven who experienced poisoning were rushed to RSUD Palabuhanratu for intensive care due to their weakened condition,” stated Syihabudin, a member of the Bantargadung Disaster Response Team (P2BK), as reported by Antara on Wednesday (25/12).
According to Syihabudin, among the seven patients receiving treatment at the hospital, one is in critical condition, while the other six are showing signs of improvement.
Additionally, ten other victims are receiving outpatient care and are gradually recovering. “They are still feeling weak due to significant fluid loss,” he added.
Currently, officials from the Sukabumi Health Office, Bantargadung Community Health Center, and the Bantargadung District Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimcam) are on-site monitoring the situation regarding this mass poisoning incident.
Syihabudin explained that the mass poisoning began when a local resident returned from the fields with a large quantity of mushrooms, which were then distributed to family members and neighbors.
The mushrooms, which were growing on decaying tree trunks and leaves, were immediately cooked by the recipients.
Shortly after consumption, those who ate the mushrooms began experiencing symptoms such as fever, dizziness, nausea, and in some cases, loss of consciousness.
“The police, along with the Sukabumi Health Office, have collected samples of the mushrooms consumed by the victims. The residents of Kampung Kebon Kalapa identified the mushrooms as Supa Laja,” Syihabudin mentioned.
Raditya Nugraha, an emergency room doctor at RSUD Palabuhanratu, noted that the seven individuals admitted to the hospital exhibited similar symptoms, including nausea, vomiting, chills, and sweating, with one patient experiencing severe shock.
“All victims have been administered specific medications to expedite their recovery,” Raditya confirmed.
